The Maureen Choi Quartet, a violinist-led quartet from Spain, will be performing flamenco music, jazz, Cuban and Latin American music during the 2019 Bacchus Live Concert Series, Monday, June 24, at Bacchus’ Kitchen in Pasadena.
Tickets will include a three-course dinner at 6:00 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Maureen Choi, violinist, composer and leader of the quartet, was born in Michigan. After winning several international violin competitions starting at five years old, Choi has played as a soloist across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America.
A graduate from Michigan State University and Berklee College of Music, Choi has performed with artists like Rodney Whitaker, Johnny O’Neal, Larry Harlow, Josh Groban, Kanye West, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Javier Colina, and has recorded for many artists and movie soundtracks.
Choi has been a faculty member at Berklee College of Music and presently teaches at Centro Superior Música Creativa in Madrid.
She recorded her first album as a leader of the Maureen Choi Quartet with jazz greats from the Detroit scene. After arriving in Spain and forming her own quartet, she recorded “Ida y Vuelta,” featuring her original compositions and arrangements.
